Position Summary
The Preclinical Assistant Professor of Dental Medicine is responsible for the instruction and supervision of dental students in simulation and laboratory settings. This role supports the foundational training of students in operative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, dental anatomy, and other essential preclinical skills. The faculty member ensures students develop strong hand skills, critical thinking abilities, and professional standards necessary for successful transition into clinical education.
Key Responsibilities
Provide preclinical instruction and supervision in simulation and laboratory environments
Teach foundational dental disciplines including operative dentistry, prosthodontics, and dental anatomy
Evaluate student performance using established grading rubrics and assessment tools
Support student development in clinical reasoning, technical proficiency, and professionalism
Participate in calibration activities and continuous improvement of preclinical curriculum
Foster a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment
Required Qualifications
DDS, DMD, or equivalent dental degree from an accredited institution
Proficiency in basic and advanced restorative dental procedures
Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and preclinical education
Eligibility for dental licensure or faculty permit in the state of employment (strongly preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience in a dental academic setting or simulation laboratory
Familiarity with preclinical grading rubrics and assessment tools
Experience with digital dentistry, CAD/CAM, or virtual simulation technologies
Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and student success
